What is LAPL Staff Development Day?

On November 14, 2018 we begin a tradition of investing in ourselves, initiating an enriching environment and finding inspiration to serve our communities better. It will be a day when all of LAPL staff get together to listen to inspiring guest speakers, enjoy informative training and participate in entertaining workshops.

Will breakfast or lunch be provided?

A light breakfast and snacks will be provided. Please honor your RSVP and select accordingly to assure everyone gets their request. Lunch will be on your own with enough time for you to venture out to local eateries. See Venue for a list of restaurants- some will be offering discounts to LAPL Staff so bring your work ID.

If you are bringing lunch, you may drop it off at the "Lunch" table to store throughout the day (no refrigeration). Please note that LACC strictly enforces no outside food in the convention center, so you must enjoy your lunch outside.

Update: The Convention Center will have a limited number of Concessions open during the event. There are also vending machines that offer drinks and food items.

What kind of workshops are being offered?

We have taken your feedback to arrange a variety of informative and fun workshops covering topics such as career tips, personal finance, stress management, elder parent care, yoga, technology, and TED talks featuring your colleagues. Please see Schedule for workshop descriptions.

What are these rumors about an afternoon check-in?

Rumors they are not! We want to know that you're having such a great time that you've gathered up the energy to return after lunch. Staff will be required to check in post lunch and it will be worth it! The best of swag is yet to come and you don't want to miss it. Afternoon registration begins at 1:00 p.m.

Is there a dress code? Do I need to bring anything?

Business casual is appropriate, or your typical work attire.  Bring a sweater in case the rooms are cold and most importantly, wear comfortable shoes.  Notebooks and pens will be provided.

Will there be a social media hashtag for 2018 SDD?

Yes. For all social media channel posting, the Staff Development Day hashtag is #laplallin

Will there be free parking or shuttles to the event?

There will be shuttles from the Valley, a limited number of parking passes for LACC, and reimbursements for those on mileage. Please also consider carpooling or taking public transportation.

For those of you who selected LACC parking in your RSVP, vouchers will be distributed prior to the event. Present your voucher upon entry to the parking garage. West Hall Garage is the closest parking to the event. If you are seeking Disabled Parking, please arrive early as there are a limited number of spaces. Please see Transportation for more information. Safe Travels!

How can LAPL staff contribute to this event?

Thank you for asking! If you are interested in helping, we are seeking volunteers who will devote a small portion of their day with plenty of time to enjoy as a participant. Please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more information.

Will there be a Quiet Room?

Yes. Room 401, Level 2 will be set aside for staff who need a quiet place for religious observances or personal restorative calm. The space is approximately 850 sq. feet and will be open throughout the day.

Will there be a private space for nursing mothers?

Yes. There are lactation rooms available within the First Aid Offices located on the first floors of the West/South Lobby. Rooms will be available for staff for the duration of the event.

Which entrance do I use when I arrive at LACC?

Look for the West Hall Entrance, enter and make your way to the Main Level.  Registration will take place in the Foyer of Concourse Hall on the Main Level.   The Concourse Hall is between the West and South Hall, but nearest to West. So as you venture to the Convention Center, think "West is Best!".

Where can I find lost items?

Lost & Found items will be held at the IT table in the Concourse Foyer.
